Iran-Russia bilateral nuclear talks fruitful: Araqchi

Deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs Abbas Araqchi

Press TV -(Thu Jun 12, 2014) A senior Iranian nuclear negotiator says bilateral talks between representatives from Tehran and Moscow in the Italian capital, Rome, was “fruitful”.

Seyyed Abbas Araqchi, who is Iran’s deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, made the comments on Wednesday after Iran’s nuclear negotiating team and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov met in Rome.
Araqchi said that during the talks, both sides discussed the issues raised in the previous rounds of nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 group – US, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany.
The top Iranian nuclear negotiator said that Tehran and Moscow hold consultations on a regular basis over Iran’s nuclear energy program.
After three days of intense and bilateral talks with US and French delegations, the Iranian nuclear negotiating team left the Swiss city of Geneva for Rome on Wednesday to take part in a disarmament conference.
At the end of the talks with US envoys, Araqchi said the talks went well though some differences remained to be resolved.
He also said that talks between Iranian and French officials were held in a “positive atmosphere,” and the meeting was “helpful.”
Representatives from Iran and Germany are scheduled to hold bilateral nuclear talks in Tehran on June 15.
Iran and the six world powers have been discussing ways to iron out their differences and start drafting a final deal that would end the West’s dispute with Iran over the country’s nuclear energy program.
The discussions come ahead of the next round of nuclear talks between Iran and the six powers, scheduled for June 16-20 in the Austrian capital, Vienna.
The two sides held the latest round of nuclear negotiations in Vienna in May.
