Iran strongly thwarting Zionist plots: Zarif
Press TV -(Tue May 6, 2014) Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says the country is determined to strongly thwart plots to portray the Islamic Republic as a threat to regional and global peace and security.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is an independent, powerful and stable country, but a vast politically-motivated propaganda campaign is at work to make the impression that Iran is a threat to the region and a danger to global peace and security,” Zarif told Iranian lawmakers at an open session of Majlis on Tuesday.
He said that Iran’s Foreign Ministry shoulders the responsibility to scrutinize developments and determine strategies to counter threats.
During his tenure as the Iranian foreign minister, Zarif said, he has always focused his efforts on firmly countering international propaganda aimed at undermining the country’s national might and preventing the Zionist or any other anti-Iran campaign from portraying Iran as a threat to regional and international security.
Ill-wishers of the Iranian nation have paid a huge political and financial price to turn Iran into a global danger in order to achieve their ominous goals against Iran and the resistance movement in the region, Zarif said.
He emphasized that cruel sanctions and arrogant threats against Iran have targeted the country’s national power, stressing, “The Iranian Administration of Prudence and Hope diligently tries to defeat enemies’ plots and will achieve success in this path, God willing.”
The minister further said that Iran has always respected followers of all divine religions and has been a secure place for minorities, adding the country is against anti-Semitism and genocide.
“The Zionists’ propaganda against Iran is a lie and fabrication merely aimed at covering up their daily crimes against the Palestinians,” Zarif pointed out.
Iran should not allow a regime that is the biggest violator of international non-proliferation laws through its illegal stockpiling of nuclear and chemical weapons to portray the Islamic Republic as a danger, Zarif underscored.
“The foreign policy of the Administration of Hope and Prudence has taken away [Israel Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s peace of mind and comfort and pushed him into a reactionary [stance] and international isolation,” he added.
Israel is widely believed to be the only possessor of nuclear arms in the Middle East, with estimated 200-400 nuclear warheads.
The Israeli regime, which rejects all regulatory international nuclear agreements, maintains a policy of deliberate ambiguity over its nuclear activities and refuses to allow its nuclear facilities to come under international regulatory inspections.
