Iran ready to promote peace in region: Zarif

Press TV -(Mon May 5, 2014) Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has stressed the importance of promoting peace and stability in the region, saying the Islamic Republic will spare no effort to this end.

Speaking at a joint press conference with his Armenian counterpart, Edward Nalbandian, in Tehran on Monday, Zarif said Iran is prepared to play an effective role in establishing peace and stability in the region.
“Our region has no need to conflict. Peace, stability and political and economic cooperation are its current needs,” the Iranian minister added.
He commended the deep-rooted and “very friendly” relations between Iran and Armenia and added that the two countries share a close stance on international developments.
Zarif said the two foreign ministers had discussed ways to improve cooperation, particularly in economic, trade, transportation, energy and banking sectors.
The Armenian foreign minister, for his part, said his country attaches great significance to bolstering cooperation with Iran, adding that Tehran and Yerevan have held positive political talks on issues of mutual interest and international developments.
He expressed hope that both countries would succeed in improving cooperation in the fields of transportation, energy, culture and education.
Nalbandian arrived in Tehran at the head of a high-ranking political delegation on Monday to hold talks with senior Iranian authorities.
The top Armenian diplomat is scheduled to meet with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani later on Monday.
Over the past years, Iran and Armenia have taken major strides towards promoting mutual relations, particularly in the energy sector.
