Statement by H. E. Mr. Gholamhossein Dehghani Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative

of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations

OIC meeting at the Ambassadorial level

3 March 2014 , New York

بسم الله

In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

The Islamic Republic of Iran expresses its appreciation to the Republic of Guinea as the Chair and the Secretary-General of OIC for his initiative to convene this coordination meeting. It is indeed very timely and urgent for the OIC Member States to discuss ways and means to mobilize our efforts, as Islamic countries, in particular and those of the international community in general, against the recent exercise undertaken by  “Israeli Knesset” in envisaging the enactment of most racist laws to impose Israeli sovereignty over the Holy Mosque of Al-Aqsa.

The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly supports the range of issues, particularly a call for an special and emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, and to renew calls to the international community as well as the United Nations Secretary-General to take on their responsibility and act without delay to put an end to these aggressive actions by Israel and to oblige Israeli regime to observe the inviolability of the holy shrines and the freedom of worship.

We fully agree with the recent statement of OIC Secretary-General, Mr. Iyad Amin Madani that “this serious unprecedented step comes within the framework of a racist policy pursued by Israel, the occupation force, to create a new fait accompli aimed at completing the plans for the judeization of the City of Al-Quds/Jerusalem and as a persistent attempt to fragment the Holy Mosque of Al-Aqsa. Israel regime bears the full responsibility for the repercussions of such repeated violations that will undermine the entire region’s stability and security”.

This year, we are observing the “International Year of Solidarity with the Palestinian People”, in the United Nations, the continued inaction by the Security Council would only lead to more atrocities by this regime which, in the past 65 years, has waged over 10 wars against all its neighbors and still continues threatening countries and peoples of the of the region in various ways. The judeization of the City of Al-Quds is not the first and will not be the last attempt by this regime to distort the historical and cultural identity of the Palestinian people and territory. But we firmly believe that the strength of the Islamic Ummah lays in unity. The global and regional challenges facing the Muslim World need our collective response. With the support of its Member States, The Organization of Islamic Cooperation can play a pivotal role in promoting Islamic solidarity in accordance with the principles and objectives enshrined in its Charter. It is only through cooperation and solidarity, that our common goals and ideals may be realized.

My Delegation stands ready to support any action this meeting may take in this regard.

I thank you Mr. Chairman.
