Iran-Russia ties contribute to world peace: Zarif
Press TV -(Tue Jan 28, 2014) Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says ties between Iran and Russia will serve the two countries’ interests and will be beneficial to regional and international peace and stability.
In a Tuesday meeting with visiting former Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov in Tehran, Zarif expressed hope that Tehran and Moscow would tap into their capacities for cooperation in various fields and further strengthen their relations.
He expressed hope that Russian President Vladimir Putin would visit Tehran in the near future and said Iran Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani is also scheduled to travel to Moscow to discuss ways to bolster parliamentary relations.
The top Iranian diplomat emphasized that such exchange of visits between the two countries’ officials would be an important and effective step toward improving mutual relations.
Zarif expressed Iran’s readiness to prepare the ground for strategic cooperation with Russia, especially in academic and research fields.
Ivanov, for his part, welcomed the interim Iran nuclear deal, saying that the Islamic Republic’s measures in this regard play an important role in portraying a realistic and positive picture of the country in the international community.
The accord, stuck between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany in Geneva on November 24, 2013, is aimed at setting the stage for the full resolution of the decade-old standoff over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.
The Russian official further expressed hope that Tehran and Moscow would lay the necessary groundwork for enhanced cooperation between their intellectuals and researchers.
