Iran condemns terrorist attack against Russian embassy in Syria
Press TV -(Tue Sep 24, 2013) An Iranian deputy foreign minister has condemned the recent terrorist attack against the Russian embassy in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Monday slammed the attack by extremist and terrorist groups against the Russian embassy.
Three people working at the embassy were wounded when a mortar shell struck the compound of the diplomatic mission on September 22.
Militants have targeted the Russian embassy several times since the beginning of the unrest in Syria more than two years ago.
Earlier this month, Russia’s embassy in Damascus was also hit by a mortar shell. No casualties were reported.
On June 4, one civilian died and several others were injured near the embassy building in Damascus by shellfire from militants operating inside Syria.
Amir-Abdollahian praised Russia’s attempts in resolving the Syrian crisis and said Moscow’s role is “based on a focus on political and democratic solution.”
The Iranian official censured the countries that advocate military intervention in Syria. He said the support those countries provide for terrorist and Takfiri groups constitutes a serious danger for the whole region and the world.
Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011.
A very large number of the militants operating inside Syria are reportedly foreign nationals.
