Expansion of ties with European Parliament among Iran top priorities: Rouhani
Press TV -(Mon Sep 9, 2013) Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says promotion of ties with the European Parliament (EP) and creation of a new atmosphere of interaction based on mutual respect are among the foreign policy priorities of the incumbent Iranian administration.
In response to a message from the European Parliament President Martin Schulz congratulating him on his victory in Iran’s June 14 presidential election, Rouhani expressed hope that relations between Iran and the European Union would enhance in the near future.
He also stated that improvement of relations with the EP and other European institutions and removal of existing misunderstandings are among the major foreign policy priorities of the current Iranian administration.
Rouhani further noted that Tehran welcomes talks and suggestions that would help achieve such goals.
Rohani garnered 50.7 percent of the vote to secure an outright victory in Iran’s 11th presidential election on June 14, 2013. The Interior Ministry put the voter turnout at 72.7 percent.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei officially endorsed Rouhani during a ceremony held in Tehran on August 3.
Rouhani took the oath of presidential office in a swearing-in ceremony in Majlis on August 4 with the presence of high-ranking delegations from tens of countries.
