Iran Hails Chavez as One of NAM’s Greatest Leaders
Fars NA -(Mar 14, 2013) Iran’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Gholam Hossein Dehqani expressed sadness over the demise of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, and said Chavez was one of the greatest leaders of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
Dehqani hailed the popularity of the late President of Venezuelan Hugo Chavez as well as the significant role he played in international arenas.
He made the remarks in a meeting held at the UN Headquarters to pay tribute to the memory of the late president who succumbed to cancer on March 5.
Dehqani addressed the meeting on behalf of the members of the Non-Aligned Movement, as Iran is the current rotating president of the NAM.
He referred to the late president Chavez as one of the greatest leaders of the NAM states who played a leading role in promotion of peace and obedience to law in the world.
Chavez has been immortalized as one of the leaders of the NAM member countries, said the Iranian envoy.
President Chavez died in a hospital in the capital city of Caracas on last week.
