“The NAM has always supported decisive combat against all forms of terrorism wherever and whenever they occur and believes that counter-terrorism efforts should be immune from any politicization and double standards,” Iran’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Gholam-Hossein Dehqani said on behalf of the NAM at a UN Security Council meeting.
The NAM considers insufficient the current measures adopted to fight terrorism in the international arena and calls for a more active role by the international community in this regard, Dehqani added.
The UN meeting was held to discuss a comprehensive strategy against terrorism. Iran currently holds the rotating presidency of the NAM.
Dehqani went on to say that increased multilateral cooperation among countries under the UN supervision is the most effective tool to curb global terrorism.

The Iranian diplomat also proposed the organization of a UN-supervised international summit to discuss ways to counter different forms of terrorism.

He said that terrorism must not be equaled with efforts to gain national freedom and the right to determine one’s fate, adding that the NAM condemns the use of force against the people who fight foreign occupation as the worst form of terrorism.
Dehqani underlined the need to counter terrorism as long as the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries are respected, and in line with the UN Charter. He also said the NAM supports all national, regional and international efforts to curb terrorism.

He also focused on the link between internationally organized crimes, including money laundering, and financing terrorism and called for coordinated efforts to combat such threats
