Reply of the Delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran
To the allegations made by a few delegations on the three Iranian Islands located in the Persian Gulf
United Nations General Assembly
(1 October, 2012)
In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Today a few delegations referred in his statements to the three Iranian Islands located in the Persian Gulf. In this regard I would like to State the followings:
The Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran reiterates its full sovereignty over the Iranian Islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb in the Persian Gulf and rejects categorically any claim to the contrary.
The Islamic Republic of Iran underlines that the measures undertaken in those Islands by the Iranian officials, have been always conducted based on the principles of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran .
The Islamic Republic of Iran has always pursued a policy of friendship and good neighborliness with all neighboring countries. In this context, the Islamic Republic of Iran stands ready to discuss bilaterally with relevant officials in the United Arab Emirates, with a view to strengthen the relations in various fields and accordingly resolve any possible misunderstanding by the other party.
As it has been reiterated regularly, the territorial integrity and the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran over the said Islands is not negotiable.
Moreover, in relation to the reference made in the statements of a few delegations, the Islamic Republic of Iran wishes to stress that the only correct historically and universally recognized name for the sea between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula is the Persian Gulf. Therefore, any use of fabricated or incomplete names for that body of water is totally groundless, absolutely unacceptable and of no legal, geographical or political value.
I thank you Mr. President.
