Dear Editor: Re: “US Sees No Sign Iran Abandoning Nuclear Aims” (News- May 19th): Contrary to the recent claims by the US Government officials, Iran has not been found to be in material breach of its obligations to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). In fact, the recent IAEA resolution, as well as the report on Iran by the IAEA chief,Mr. Mohammad ElBaradei, laud Iran for adopting the Additional Protocol and cooperating with the IAEA requests for information and inspection of Iran’s nuclear facilities. Clearly, the US Government is not interested in respecting Iran’s NPT right to acquire peaceful nuclear technology, notwithstanding the US’s demand that Iran must “suspend all nuclear-related activities.” Such a demand lacks any legal justification or rationale, other than bullying Iran, and the US Government should instead of such reckless demands heed Iran’s legitimate rights and national policies.
